This is an average size halibut commonly called a "chicken."   Barndoor halibut over 100 pounds are less frequent these days. If you plan a charter, expect to catch fish in the 20 to 40 pound range.  These chickens fight well and provide the finest eating fillets.  An average 40 pound halibut is approximately 12 years old.

This "chicken" halibut weighed 23 pounds.
